Who can apply?

The BREAKTHROUGH Youth Music Festival is open to musicians of all experience levels between the ages of 10-18. Whether you're performing solo, part of a band, a singer-songwriter, rapper, DJ, or instrumentalist, we'd want to hear from you!

Do I need to be a GRCS Music School student to apply?

No. The festival is open to all young musicians from across the Bass Coast and South Gippsland, regardless of where you learned music.

Do I need previous performance experience?

Not at all. We welcome musicians of all experience levels, including those who may be preparing for one of their first live performances.

Is the audition competitive?

The audition process is not a competition. The application helps us understand who is applying and assists with planning the event. We encourage everyone to apply.

What kind of audition recording can I submit?

Your recording can be a phone video, rehearsal recording, live performance footage, or a studio recording. It does not need to be professionally produced.

How many songs should I submit?

You only need to submit one recording as part of your application. We will also ask for a proposed set list so we can plan the event schedule.

Can I perform original music?

Absolutely. Original music is encouraged, although covers are welcome too.

Can I perform covers?

Yes. Cover songs are welcome, provided they are appropriate for an all-ages community event.

 

Can I apply as a band?

Yes. Bands, duos, ensembles, and solo performers are all encouraged to apply.

 

Will performers be paid?

Yes. All proceeds from the event will go directly toward performer payments. Further details will be provided to successful applicants.

 

How long will each performance be?

Performance times will depend on the number of successful applicants. More information will be provided once applications close.

 

What equipment will be provided?

All stage equipment will be provided. Further information regarding PA systems, microphones, amplifiers, drums, and other equipment will be provided to successful applicants before the event. 

 

What happens after I submit my application?

Our team will review your application and contact you with the next steps and event information.

 

Is there a cost to apply or perform?

No. Applying and performing at the festival is completely free.

 

Can friends and family attend?

Yes. The festival is open to the community, and we encourage performers to invite family and friends along to support local music.

 

When do applications close?

Applications close on 13th of August. We recommend applying early to avoid missing out.
